Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • My work is influenced by atmosphere, movement, texture, and the emotional weight of lived experience. Before painting, I spent years documenting music culture as a photographer, immersed in environments shaped by energy, connection, and human expression. Rather than depicting specific subjects, I use abstraction to explore those experiences and create work that invites personal interpretation.

  • Not usually. I am more interested in creating a feeling than illustrating a fixed idea or narrative. The work often begins with instinct rather than a concept, allowing the meaning to emerge through the process. What one person sees in a painting may be completely different from what someone else experiences, and I enjoy that openness.

  • Most paintings begin without a predetermined outcome. I start by responding to the surface through gesture, mark making, texture, and movement. From there, the work develops through a process of building, obscuring, editing, and rediscovering until it feels resolved.

  • My work combines acrylic paint, spray paint, oil stick, charcoal, graphite, and other mixed media depending on the needs of the piece. I am interested in creating surfaces that feel layered and physical, allowing different materials to interact over time.

  • Scale changes the way a painting is experienced. I want the work to feel immersive and physical rather than something viewed from a distance. Larger surfaces allow me to build atmosphere, movement, and texture in a way that invites viewers into the painting rather than simply asking them to observe it.

  • I describe my work as large scale contemporary abstraction. It sits somewhere between instinct and structure, combining layered surfaces, gestural marks, symbols, and texture to create paintings that feel atmospheric, energetic, and open to interpretation.
